With his newest release after the So Far Gone mixtape, Drake has continued to elevate to superstar status with his recent signing to Universal via Young Money as he prepares for his debut album. We’ve already spoken about his recent collaborations in the studio with Jay-Z, Lykke Li, Kanye and the like so we are expecting it to be groundbreaking. This new mixtape is a culmination of his greatest hits with some radio freestyles, some Wayne features, Trey Songz features and fancy intro.

I’ve got to say, I have hesitated to write about Drake for a while. And it’s not that I don’t like his music or the artist himself, but it’s taken basically everyone in my network to bring me to realize that Drake is way bigger than any of us had ever expected for him. As a resident of Toronto, you are typically blinded to realize that someone from your neighborhood could make it this big but I can honestly say that we’ve all taken notice.

With his latest mixtape, “So Far Gone” released this past February, its online release, Aubrey Graham, a 22-year old Toronto-born raised in Forest Hill rapper has garnered the icon-kind of attention that has got many of us talking about a kid who we all knew as Jimmy Edwards, the disabled Degrassi basketball player (Damnit Spinner!) who took to the mic on occasion in and around Toronto.  But his work has paid off as he has since written tracks for Lil Wayne and Dr Dre only to collaborate with artists like Trey Songz, Omarion, Robin Thicke, Peter Bjorn and John, Santigold, Lloyd, Bun-B and Lil Wayne.

Armed with a vicious network of producers, insane rhythms and a clean, witty style, his songs, “You Da Best” and “Replacement Girl” have been on lock ever since 2006. His upcoming release of “Thank Me Later” will be released soon under the supervision of Lil Wayne so expect big things. His rep is only going to get bigger and his flow is only going to get tighter. Even Kid Cudi has been tossed in the mix with Drake. In an attempt to end the supposed controversy between him and Drake, Cudi took it upon himself to sidetrack from productions and make an official announcement about his relationship and admiration for him on his blog: “  I DONT HAVE BEEF WITH DRAKE, I THINK HES A REALLY DOPE ARTIST WHO WILL DEF MAKE A STRONG IMPACT THIS YEAR. NEXT PERSON THAT ASKS ME IM PUTTIN THEM IN A FIGURE FOUR LEG LOCK RICK FLARE WWF STYLE, WITH NO REMORSE LOL HAHA. NOW, BACK TO THE ALBUM…”

Stay tuned for the official release.
