The Playstation Move

The Playstation Move

Sony’s got their answer to the Nintendo’s Wii and Microsoft’s Project Natal. The Playstation Move.

“It’s fast, precise and accurate,” said Peter Dille, Sony’s senior VP of marketing. “We like to think this is the next generation of motion-gaming…we’re really approaching this as a platform launch.”

It will work in unison with the Playstation Eye by using the colourball on top of the control to help the users in-game motion accuracy. Sony will be releasing a “Starter Kit” bundle that would include a Playstation Eye, and the Playstion Move controller, for around $100. Sweet.

The Playstion Move will debut late 2010.

2011 Lexus LFA

2011 Lexus LFA

This bad boy debuted at the Tokyo Motor Show back in October (though its concept was first announced/shown back in 2005), and this article has been sitting in my drafts box since then, whoops. (I’m slowly getting around to finishing a bunch of articles that have been on my to-do list). Anyway it’s packing 550 ponies and gets from 0-60mph in 3.6 seconds. They’ll be making approximately 500 of these starting production late 2010, releasing 20 per month until late 2012. If you’ve got deep pockets you can get on the wait list now, they go for about $350,000 USD.

You can configure your own Lexus LFA on their website. From the seats to the stitching, you can customize the car right down to the colour of the brake calipers.

Sony One-Ups Mac?

It’s about time Sony started making some aggressive movement in the portable computer market. The new Sony Vaio X sounds like the perfect netbook. It’s only a pound and a half! That’s half of a Macbook Air. Its packs a model standard, Intel Atom processor running at 2.00GHz, more than plenty for running the basics.

Specifications Sony Vaio X Macbook Air
Base Price $1299 $1399 ($1299 for students)
Screen Size 11.1 inch LED (1366×768 resolution) 13.3 inch LED (1280×800 resolution)
Weight 1.5 lbs 3 lbs
Battery Life up to 3.5 hours (standard battery)
up to 14 hours (extended battery)
up to 5 hours (standard battery)
Height (closed) .55 inches .76 inches
OS Windows 7 Home Edition Snow Leopard
Hard Drive 64 GB SSD 120 GB SATA
RAM 2GB DDR2 2GB DDR3

It sounds all well and good, and it is for the most part, although it comes pre-installed with the regular plethora of crap: “The VAIO® Software Experience: VAIO Care™ – System diagnostics and maintenance, Norton Internet Security™ 2009 30-Day Trial Offer, Microsoft® Works SE 9.0 w/ 60-Day Trial Version of Microsoft® Office Home and Student 2007 Microsoft® Streets and Trips 2009″. So if you’re going to buy, you might want to consider a fresh install of windows.

Apple Magic Mouse

Apple Magic Mouse

Apple has recently released a few new products into their store, including new sizes for the iMac computers and a redesigned unibody for their entry level Macbook.  The most notable release in my mind was the Apple Magic Mouse, which comes standard with all of the new iMacs. It brings the multi-touch functionality to the desktop, making it just as easy to browse webpages and zoom in and out, as it does for their laptop lineup. You can pick one up for $69 from the Apple store.

Dyson Air Multiplier

Dyson Air Multiplier

Dyson is a genius. He eliminated the airbag on the vacuum cleaner, then he revolutionizes the hand dryer and now has his sights set on a blade-less fans. From the sounds of it, it takes in air at its base and multiplies it through the ring, producing an “uninterrupted” air stream. Cool. On a side note, I used the Dyson “airblade” at MoMA (Museum of Modern Art) the other week, and it was the most memorable piece of the day. The 10” multiplier goes for $299 while the 12” goes for $329 at the Dyson store.
